Rotten Tomatoes – inspiration
August 23rd, 2007 by philip.wilkinson

I wanted to quickly post about the site at Rotten Tomatoes (uk), purely because I really like what they have done in showing lots of movie reviews from critics and experts around the web. At a glance you can see what Tim Adams said in the Guardian, or David Edwards from the Daily Mirror, linking off to their full reviews as needed:

In this example, I was looking at the Bourne Ultimatum to see if it is worth going and I do have some critics I read from time to time as they tend to have a good writing style or share similar interests to me.

There is even a MyCritics section which lets me choose favourite critics or use a pre-defined list and then narrows the content shown just from these people. Similar with the MyFriends option. A nice touch, although I haven’t a clue who a good critic is really and getting my friends to use facebook took 4 months, let along this site! Now if only someone could work this out for me…

I don’t like Critics reviews, they’re far too poncy :P The MyCritics section sounds good though. I was recently looking at lists of ‘Top 100 books to read before you die’ etc, whilst trying to find an interesting book to read. Turns out that critics generally seem to favour obscure things. I mean why would anyone suggest you should read a book still in Ye Olde English? That’s just the critics showing off…. Or is that just me?
