For an undisclosed amount, Glimpse has been bought by TheFind, with their homepage updated as of this morning.
It’s actually a really interesting take on things as they both focus on more niche-style products and provide a product search and price comparison interface to find things from “skinny leg jeans” to “office chair”, which carves out a nice niche that the big comparison engines don’t cover. A social aspect is then added on top in order to save and share things you find.
The exciting thing for me is that there is finally some innovation across the whole ecommerce space covering product discovery, shopping research (a la crowdstorm), price comparison, and new ecommerce stores.
Hi Philip, For me, TheFind – and the new version of Glimpse.com – is still a shopping engine, not a social shopping engine. Compared to Kelkoo / Shopping.com, they use crawling technology rather than relying on paid listings from merchants (even if they have a deal with Shopping.com for sponsored listings) ; that means they can display more listings than the classic CSEs for the same search. In that sense, TheFind can be more useful than Kelkoo / Shopping.com to discover new products. Still, you can find “skinny leg jeans” on Kelkoo: http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/ctl/do/search?siteSearchQuery=skinny+leg+jeans&fromform=true Nicolas
Yep – but you can’t actually save and share objects via Kelkoo either – more a fire and forget site. The shopping space has been stagnant for ages and the classic shopping engines are no longer giving people what they really want – the best possible price from the best merchant.
